就拿四六级、托福、雅思、考研英语以及其他很多的英语考试来说，英文外刊往往是题源。很多报过托福雅思四六级英语补习班的同学，应该有过这样的经历：补习班开始，老师都会意味深长叮嘱你一定要看外刊，最好能做到每三天读一篇经济学人双语精读笔记，这样能极大提升英语能力。当然，并不是说考试中所出的题一定是原题（很多时候反而被做了很大的改动），而是去让你渐渐地习惯外刊的叙事思路，提升英语思维的同时，积累写作词组和句型，提升单词量。
对于中国学生来说，英语学习过程中，不仅仅要培养的是听说读写各方面的能力，注重培养国际视野也是相当重要的。没有跨界思维，谈不上英语好，竞争力也会非常薄弱。
